Quantum Blink
A series of chromogenic prints that simultaneously capture two instances in one image. Exploring the quantum mechanics notion of consciousness in which our brain recognizes forty individual moments per second, the series seek to illustrate in photographic terms this mental blink.
“I attempt to articulate something in between the freezing of time - that so often characterizes photography - and its relentless passing. I hint towards temporalities that are fluid, speculative, and somewhat loose. I am looking for the line that divides the finite (probability) from the infinite (possibility). If time is a succession of instants, I want to see what lies in between them. I am after the gaps between instants of consciousness.”
Using masks placed within the camera, the resulting photographs is a composition of vertically running stripes that alternate between the two moments. The holistic image can be read to be shifting or changing depending on the distance or angle from which it is observed.
